Ingredients:

  • 1 whole turkey (12–14 lbs), thawed
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 8 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (optional for umami depth)
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme (or 1/2 tsp dried)
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional but amazing)
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth or water (for the roasting pan)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. Clean and Prep Turkey: Remove giblets and pat the turkey dry with paper towels. Season the cavity and skin generously with salt and pepper.
  3. Make the Glaze: In a bowl, whisk melted butter, honey, garlic, soy sauce, mustard, thyme, and paprika until combined.
  4. Brush and Roast: Place turkey in a large roasting pan. Brush with half of the honey garlic glaze. Pour broth into the bottom of the pan.
  5. Roast uncovered for 2 ½ to 3 hours, basting every 30 minutes with remaining glaze. Tent with foil if the skin starts browning too fast.
  6. Check for Doneness: Internal temperature should reach 165°F in the thickest part of the thigh.
  7. Rest for 20–30 minutes before carving so the juices redistribute.

Serving Suggestions

This turkey pairs beautifully with classic holiday sides that balance the sweet and savory glaze. Try it with Oven baked sweet potatoes, or serve it alongside Brown Sugar Roasted Carrots and Savory Herb Stuffing. For a pop of color and brightness, add Cranberry Sauce with Orange Zest.

And don’t forget dessert! After the turkey is carved, wrap up the evening with a slice of Pumpkin Pie or Pecan Pie Bars.

Tips for the Best Honey Garlic Turkey

  • Use fresh garlic for the richest flavor—pre-minced won’t give you the same depth.
  • Let the turkey rest before carving. This is crucial for locking in juices.
  • If you’re short on time, make the glaze up to two days in advance and store it in the fridge.
  • Save those drippings! Use them to make a honey garlic gravy by whisking with a cornstarch slurry or flour roux on the stovetop.

Make It Ahead-Friendly

You can prep the glaze and even season the turkey the night before. Cover and refrigerate it overnight, then bring to room temperature for 1 hour before roasting. This makes Thanksgiving morning feel a lot more relaxed!
