Ingredients:

  • 1 whole turkey (12–16 pounds), thawed
  • ½ cup olive oil or melted butter
  • 2 tablespoons lemon pepper seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme
  • 1 tablespoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • 2 lemons (zested and juiced)
  • 1 lemon, quartered (for cavity)
  • 6 cloves garlic, smashed
  • 1 small onion, quartered
  • Fresh rosemary, thyme, or parsley (optional, for stuffing)

Instructions:

  1. Prep the Turkey: Preheat oven to 325°F. Remove giblets from the turkey and pat dry with paper towels.
  2. Season: In a bowl, combine olive oil (or melted butter), lemon juice, lemon zest, lemon pepper seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, and salt.
  3. Rub and Stuff: Rub the seasoning mixture all over the turkey, including under the skin. Stuff the cavity with quartered lemon, onion, garlic, and fresh herbs if using.
  4. Roast: Place turkey breast-side up in a roasting pan. Tent loosely with foil and bake 13–15 minutes per pound. Remove foil for the last 45 minutes to brown the skin. Baste occasionally with pan juices.
  5. Check Temp: The turkey is done when it reaches 165°F in the thickest part of the thigh.
  6. Rest & Carve: Let the turkey rest for 20–30 minutes before carving. Garnish with extra lemon slices and herbs for a beautiful presentation.

What to Serve with Lemon Pepper Turkey

Pair this zesty turkey with cozy classics like easy stuffing bites, glazed kielbasa bites, or honey maple -glazed carrots. The citrusy notes in the turkey also go beautifully with cranberry-orange sauce or a simple herbed gravy.

For dessert, something like a lemon cheesecake or apple crisp will echo the citrus tones and round out the meal.

Pro Tips:

  • For even more citrusy flavor, add lemon slices under the turkey skin before roasting.
  • Use a roasting rack to allow even air circulation and a crispy underside.
  • Don’t skip the resting time—it ensures the juices redistribute, so every slice stays moist.
