What I love most about Oreo Muddy Buddies is how they taste like the best parts of cookies & cream ice cream but in a crunchy snackable form. Every handful has that mix of coated Chex cereal, cookie crumbs, and little bits of Oreo filling.

It’s nostalgic, fun, and dangerously easy to grab by the handful. This recipe also uses simple pantry ingredients, so you can make it anytime without a special trip to the store — perfect for when the craving hits late at night.

You can get creative with this recipe and make it your own. Try using Golden Oreos for a vanilla version, mint Oreos for a holiday twist, or peanut butter Oreos for an extra-rich finish.

You can also drizzle melted white chocolate over the cooled muddy buddies for a bakery-style look. Kids love helping crush the Oreo cookies, and this is one of those forgiving recipes that will always turn out delicious no matter what.

Oreo Muddy Buddies Recipe

Ingredients

  • 6 cups Chex cereal (rice or corn)
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips
  • ½ cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup peanut butter (or cookies & cream spread)
  • ¼ cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1½ cups powdered sugar
  • 15 Oreo cookies, crushed (filling included!)

Instructions

1. Prep

Add the powdered sugar to a large gallon-size zip-top bag and set aside. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Melt the Chocolate Mixture

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine:

  • white chocolate chips
  • semisweet chocolate chips
  • peanut butter
  • butter

Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth. Stir in the vanilla.

3. Coat the Cereal

Place Chex cereal in a large mixing bowl.
Pour the warm chocolate-peanut-butter mixture over the cereal and gently fold until every piece is coated.

4. Add the Oreos

Sprinkle the crushed Oreos over the coated cereal and fold again. The cookies will cling to the melty chocolate coating.

5. Shake With Powdered Sugar

Transfer the mixture to the zip bag with powdered sugar.
Seal and shake until everything is coated and no longer sticky.

6. Cool & Serve

Spread the muddy buddies on a lined baking sheet to cool and set.
Once dry, store in an airtight container — or eat immediately. No judgment.

Jennie’s Thoughts

This cookies-and-cream version might be my new favorite muddy buddies. The crushed Oreos add the best texture — a little crunch, a little creaminess, and that classic Oreo flavor that somehow makes everything taste better. I love how easy this recipe is, and it’s perfect for gifting in little bags because it looks so pretty with the black-and-white speckles.

Storage Tips

These Oreo Muddy Buddies store beautifully, which makes them perfect for making ahead. Keep them in an airtight container at room temperature, and they’ll stay fresh for up to a week. If your home is warm, you can refrigerate them — the cold makes the Oreo pieces even crunchier and extra delicious. They also freeze well, so you can stash some away for later… if you have the willpower not to eat them all first.
