Ingredients

  • 3 pounds russet or Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 1 packet Lipton French Onion soup mix
  • Water (enough to cover potatoes)
  • 4–6 tablespoons butter (to taste)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Optional: splash of milk or cream

How to Make French Onion Mashed Potatoes

  1. Peel and chop the potatoes into even-sized pieces.
  2. Place potatoes in a large pot and cover with water.
  3. Stir in the Lipton French Onion soup mix.
  4. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15–20 minutes, or until potatoes are fork-tender.
  5. Drain the potatoes, reserving a small amount of the cooking liquid if desired.
  6. Add butter, salt, and pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy.
  7. Add a splash of milk or reserved broth as needed to reach your desired consistency.
