Ingredients

  • 1 bottle dry red wine (Merlot, Cabernet, or Zinfandel)
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 2–3 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 2–3 star anise (optional)
  • ¼ cup honey, brown sugar, or maple syrup (to taste)
  • Optional: splash of brandy or orange liqueur

How to Make Mulled Wine (Stovetop)

  1. Pour the wine into a large saucepan or Dutch oven.
  2. Add the orange slices, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and star anise.
  3. Heat over medium-low heat until warm, do not boil.
  4. Stir in honey or sugar to taste.
  5. Simmer gently for 20–30 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse.
  6. Remove from heat and strain if desired.
  7. Serve warm with orange slices and cinnamon sticks.
