Frozen onion rings in air fryer

We love cooking frozen onion rings in air fryer, specifically our power xl airfryer. They turn a gorgeous golden brown, like you had dropped them in a deep fryer. Serve them on a platter or make an onion ring tower, just like they serve at red robin, either way they make one of the most perfect appetizers, every time.

What you need to make crispy onion rings:

1 package of frozen onion rings – We used red robin brand

Power xl air fryer

Spray olive oil

How to make frozen onion rings in air fryer

Begin by spraying your air fryer basket with oil and place onion rings in a single layer, in the bottom of the air fryer basket, using the whole bag. Onion rings will come in different sizes, be sure to not leave smaller onion rings in the center of the larger onion rings. Turn the power xl air fryer on, cooking on the french fry setting and set the time to 12 minutes. One of my favorite features of the power xl air fryer is the “shake” feature, it lets you know when you need to shake or turn your food over. Note: for smaller air fryers, you might need to cook your onion rings in two batches, this is the best way to make sure they are all spaced and get crispy so you get a great crunch with every bite.

You can store leftover onion rings in an air-tight container and store them in the fridge for a few days. You can then cook heat them up in the air fryer, and cut the cook time down to 4 minutes, and they will still have a crispy, crunchy coating like the first time you cooked them.

For a healthier option and one of our favorite brand of onion rings, we love the Alexia onion rings, they make a great appetizer and are great cooked with avocado oil in the air fryer. You don’t need to use extra oil with your air fryer onion rings. I only spray the bottom tray to make sure they don’t stick at all, but if you don’t use oil they might stick in a couple small places.

Dipping sauce for homemade onion rings:

BBQ sauce

Heinz Ketchup

Honey mustard

Another great appetizer that we love to serve are frings, a mix of French fries and onion rings. We would always go to Ruby’s diner in Ardmore, PA, and order a basket of frings! The best part is all you need to do to make a batch of frings is cook a bag of frozen french fries in your air fryer on the french fry setting, then cook a bag of onion rings, and toss both fries and rings in a bowl together.

Air fryer frozen onion rings make an awesome side dish with hot dogs or a juicy burger. An easy way to make a quick dinner on a busy night.
