I love how the smaller pancakes create his ears, arms, feet, and muzzle. Add a chocolate heart on his belly, a sweet little bear face, strawberries, and plenty of maple syrup, and you have such a fun breakfast for kids, birthdays, Valentine’s Day, or a cozy weekend morning.

How to Make Teddy Bear Pancakes

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

In another bowl, whisk the egg, milk, melted butter, and vanilla.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently stir just until combined. Don’t overmix the pancake batter.

Heat a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium-low heat and lightly grease with butter or cooking spray.

Now you’ll make several different sizes of pancakes for your teddy bear.

For each bear, make:

  • 1 large pancake for the body
  • 1 medium pancake for the head
  • 1 small pancake for the muzzle
  • 2 small pancakes for the ears
  • 2 small pancakes for the arms
  • 2 slightly oval pancakes for the legs
  • 2 tiny pancakes for the paw pads

Cook each pancake until bubbles appear on the surface. Flip and cook the opposite side until golden brown.

Transfer the pancakes to a plate and let them cool just enough to handle.

How to Assemble a Teddy Bear Pancake

Place the large pancake vertically on a serving platter to make the teddy bear’s body.

Place the medium pancake just above it for the head.

Tuck two small pancakes behind the top of the head to create the ears. Add a little white icing or whipped topping to the centers of the ears.

Place the small muzzle pancake toward the bottom center of the bear’s face.

Arrange two small pancakes on either side of the body for the arms.

Place two oval pancakes toward the bottom for the legs and feet. Add a tiny pancake to each foot to create the paw pads.

Make the Teddy Bear Face

Use chocolate frosting or melted chocolate to make two round eyes. Add tiny dots of white and black icing to give the eyes a little expression.

Pipe a chocolate nose onto the muzzle.

Use black decorating icing to make the little mouth underneath the nose.

You can make your bear smile, give him a tiny expression, or make each teddy bear look a little different.

Add the Chocolate Heart

Pipe chocolate frosting or melted chocolate into a large heart shape in the center of the teddy bear’s belly.

I think the heart makes this pancake bear especially cute!

You can also add little chocolate dots to the tiny pancakes on the feet to create paw prints.

Serve with Maple Syrup

Finish the platter with fresh strawberries and a generous drizzle of warm maple syrup.

You can drizzle the syrup around the teddy bear like I did or serve a little bowl of syrup alongside the pancakes for dipping.

Tips for Making Pancake Shapes

Keep the heat around medium-low so you have time to shape the smaller pancakes before they begin to set.

For the tiny pancakes, a squeeze bottle works really well. It gives you more control over the amount of batter and makes it easier to create different sizes.

Don’t worry if the circles aren’t completely perfect. Once all of the pancakes are assembled, the different shapes actually make the teddy bear even cuter.

Fun Occasions for Teddy Bear Pancakes

These would be adorable for a child’s birthday breakfast, Valentine’s Day, a teddy bear picnic, a baby shower brunch, or a special weekend breakfast.

For Valentine’s Day, add extra strawberries and chocolate hearts. You could even use heart-shaped sprinkles around the plate.

They’d also be really cute for a Teddy Bear Picnic breakfast with fruit, mini muffins, and little bottles of milk or juice.

Jennie’s Thoughts

I had so much fun putting this little teddy bear together! I think my favorite part is that he’s made almost entirely out of different-sized pancakes. Once you add the little ears, paws, muzzle, and feet, he really starts looking like a teddy bear.

And I absolutely had to give him a chocolate heart on his belly! I think that little detail makes these especially cute for Valentine’s Day, but you could make them any time you want a fun breakfast.

I served mine with strawberries and plenty of maple syrup drizzled around the plate. Between the fluffy pancakes, chocolate, berries, and maple syrup, this isn’t just a cute breakfast—it tastes really good too.

This would be such a fun one to make with kids because everyone could build and decorate their own little pancake bear. And the bears definitely don’t have to look perfect. I think the slightly different shapes and expressions are what give them their personality!
