Italian Pastina Soup
Italian Pastina Soup
Pastina Soup is the ultimate bowl of comfort — tiny star-shaped pasta simmered in a flavorful broth until it becomes creamy, cozy, and absolutely soul-soothing.

It’s the soup so many of us grew up with, the one you make when you need warmth, healing, or just something simple and delicious.

This version is easy, quick, and perfect for busy weeknights or lazy afternoons at home.

You only need a handful of ingredients, and in less than 20 minutes, you have a bowl of pure comfort. Whether you’re craving something nostalgic, feeding little ones, or soothing a cold, this Pastina Soup hits every note.

One of my favorite things about this soup is how family-friendly it is. Little ones love the tiny pasta shapes, and adults appreciate how soothing and satisfying it feels without being heavy.

It’s the kind of recipe you can make when someone in the house isn’t feeling well, when the weather turns chilly, or when you just want something homemade that doesn’t require a lot of effort.

Pastina Soup always delivers that gentle, familiar comfort — it’s simple food made with heart.

And truly, once you make this, it becomes one of those recipes you keep tucked in your back pocket. It’s quick, inexpensive, and endlessly reliable, but it still feels special every time you make it.

Whether you’re serving it as a cozy weeknight dinner, pairing it with a grilled cheese, or enjoying a warm bowl on a quiet afternoon, it’s a recipe that brings people together and fills the kitchen with that nostalgic, homey feeling we all love.

Let this be one of those meals that anchors your kitchen during the cold months — warm, simple, and full of love.

Ingredients
- 6 cups chicken broth
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 carrots, chopped
- 1 cup pastina (or tiny pasta)
- 1 tablespoon butter (optional, for richness)
- Garlic salt, to taste
- Garlic powder, to taste
- Salt & pepper, to taste
- Parmesan rind

Instructions
Step 1 — Simmer the Veggies
In a large pot, add the celery, onion, and carrots to the chicken broth.
Bring to a simmer and cook until the vegetables are completely soft.

Step 2 — Blend the Broth
Using a slotted spoon, remove the cooked vegetables and place them in a blender with a ladle of hot broth.
Blend until completely smooth.
Pour the blended vegetables back into the pot — this makes the broth thick, silky, and full of flavor.
Step 3 — Add the Pastina
Bring the broth back to a gentle boil.
Add the pastina and cook according to package instructions, usually 5–7 minutes, until tender.

Step 4 — Season the Soup
Add garlic salt, garlic powder, and regular salt to taste.
Stir in the butter and parm rind if you want an extra creamy, rich finish.
Step 5 — Serve Warm
Dish into bowls and top with grated Parmesan.
Serve immediately — cozy perfection!

Jennie’s Thoughts
Pastina Soup feels like the kind of recipe passed down through generations — simple, nourishing, and made with love. It’s the dish I want when I need something calming and cozy, the food equivalent of a soft blanket and a quiet moment.

The tiny star pasta makes this extra fun, especially for kids, but the creamy broth makes it special enough for adults too.

What I love most is how customizable it is. If you want it thinner, add extra broth. If you want it thicker and creamier, stir in a little more Parmesan or even a splash of cream. It’s also the perfect base for add-ins like shredded chicken, spinach, or a squeeze of lemon.

Serving Suggestions
- Add fresh parsley or basil on top
- Serve with warm crusty bread or garlic toast
- Stir in a handful of fresh spinach at the end
- Add shredded rotisserie chicken for a heartier meal

Storage
Pastina does continue to absorb liquid as it sits.
To store:
- Refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 3 days
- Add extra broth when reheating to bring back the perfect consistency
