Ingredients
Dry Ingredients:
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
Wet Ingredients:
- 6 tablespoons butter, softened
- ⅔ cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract (plus 1 tablespoon for topping)
- 1 cup mashed bananas (approximately 2 ripe bananas)
- ⅛ cup milk
- 1/4 cup caramel
Topping:
- 1 banana, halved lengthwise
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- Caramel drizzle
Instructions
- Prepare the Pan and Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a standard loaf pan to ensure the bread doesn’t stick. - Mix the Wet Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter, sugar, and 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, until fully incorporated. - Add the Bananas
Mash two ripe bananas into the wet mixture. Fold the bananas in until well combined, ensuring the mixture remains smooth and creamy. - Incorporate the Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, baking soda, and baking powder. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring just until combined. - Add the Milk
Slowly pour in the milk, mixing until the batter is smooth and all ingredients are well incorporated. - Assemble the Loaf
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, spreading it evenly. Swirl the caramel in the banana bread batter. Place the halved banana on top of the batter. Sprinkle the 2 tablespoons of brown sugar and 1 tablespoon of vanilla over the banana halves for a caramelized topping.
- Bake
Bake the bread in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center of the loaf—it should come out clean. If the top begins to brown too quickly, cover it with aluminum foil and continue baking for an additional 15-20 minutes if needed. - Cool and Serve
Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring it to a cooling rack. For an extra indulgent touch, drizzle with homemade caramel sauce before serving.
