How to Make Mini Snowman Cookies

Step 1: Make the Sugar Cookie Dough

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth and well combined.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing until a soft cookie dough forms.

Step 2: Create the Blue Marbled Dough

Divide the cookie dough into two portions, leaving approximately two-thirds of the dough its natural color.

Add a small amount of blue gel food coloring to the remaining one-third of the dough and gently knead until the color is evenly distributed.

Break both portions into smaller pieces and arrange them together, alternating the blue and plain dough.

Gently press and fold the dough just a few times to create beautiful blue-and-white swirls.

Be careful not to overmix, or the colors will blend together instead of creating a marbled appearance.

Step 3: Chill the Dough

Flatten the marbled dough into a disk and wrap it in plastic wrap.

Refrigerate for approximately 30–45 minutes, or until firm enough to roll and cut.

Chilling helps the cookies hold their shape and keeps the stamped details from spreading too much during baking.

Step 4: Roll and Stamp the Snowmen

Preheat the oven to 350°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.

Roll the chilled dough on a lightly floured surface to approximately 1/4-inch thickness.

Using your mini snowman plunger cookie cutter, press the cutter into the dough to cut out each snowman.

Push down on the plunger to imprint the snowman’s face and scarf into the dough.

Carefully lift the cutter and release the cookie.

Place each snowman on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch between cookies.

Step 5: Bake the Cookies

Bake at 350°F for approximately 7–10 minutes, depending on the size and thickness of your cookies.

The cookies should be set with lightly golden edges, but you don’t want them to brown too much because the blue-and-white marbling looks prettiest when the cookies stay light.

Remove from the oven and allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for several minutes.

Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 6: Serve and Enjoy

Once cooled, arrange the Mini Snowman Cookies on a festive Christmas cookie platter or package them in holiday treat bags.

The stamped snowman faces and scarves make these cookies adorable without needing additional frosting or decorations.

Enjoy!

How to Make Beautiful Blue Marbled Sugar Cookies

The blue marbled effect is one of my favorite things about these little snowman cookies.

To create the look, you’ll need two colors of dough: the original vanilla sugar cookie dough and a portion colored with blue gel food coloring.

The trick is to combine the dough gently without mixing it completely.

You want to see pretty ribbons and swirls of blue running through the white dough.

Here are a few helpful tips:

Use gel food coloring. Gel coloring creates a beautiful blue color without adding too much extra liquid to the dough.

Start with a little color. A small amount of blue creates a pretty wintery shade.

Don’t overmix the dough. Too much mixing will turn the entire batch pale blue instead of leaving distinct marbled swirls.

Roll gently. Rolling the dough too many times can blend the colors together.

Save the scraps. Gather the leftover dough gently and roll it again. The marbling may become softer with each batch, but the cookies will still look beautiful.

What Is a Plunger Cookie Cutter?

A plunger cookie cutter is a special cookie cutter that cuts the outside shape of a cookie and stamps a decorative design into the dough at the same time.

For these Mini Snowman Cookies, I used a little snowman cutter I purchased on Amazon.

The cutter has a built-in stamp that imprints the snowman’s face and scarf when you press down on the plunger.

It’s such a simple way to create detailed Christmas cookies without having to decorate each one by hand.

You can find similar cutters by searching Amazon for mini snowman plunger cookie cutter or snowman cookie cutter with stamp.

Tips for Perfect Stamped Snowman Cookies

Keep the dough chilled. Cold dough holds the snowman shape and stamped details much better.

Don’t roll the dough too thin. Approximately 1/4 inch works well for most stamped cookie cutters.

Use a light touch with flour. A little flour helps prevent sticking, but too much can make the cookies dry.

Press the stamp firmly. You want the face and scarf details to be visible after baking without pressing all the way through the dough.

Avoid overbaking. Remove the cookies when they’re set and just beginning to turn golden around the edges.

Chill the cut cookies if needed. If the dough becomes warm while stamping, refrigerate the baking sheet for 10 minutes before baking to help preserve the designs.

Do These Snowman Cookies Need Icing?

No! That’s one of the best things about this recipe.

The snowman plunger stamp creates the face and scarf details right in the dough, so the cookies are already decorated before they go into the oven.

The pretty blue marbling adds even more visual interest, making these cookies beautiful without royal icing or frosting.

Of course, you could add a little edible shimmer or a light dusting of powdered sugar after baking if you wanted an extra snowy appearance, but I think they’re adorable just the way they are.

How to Store Mini Snowman Cookies

Store the completely cooled cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.

Place parchment paper between layers if you’re stacking them to help protect the stamped designs.

You can also freeze the baked cookies in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months.

Thaw at room temperature before serving.

Can I Freeze the Cookie Dough?

Yes! Wrap the prepared dough tightly in plastic wrap and place it in a freezer-safe bag.

Freeze for up to 3 months.

Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before rolling, cutting, and baking.

Their pretty blue-and-white coloring looks beautiful alongside traditional Christmas cookies, chocolate treats, and festive holiday candies.

They’re also small enough to tuck into Christmas cookie tins or clear treat bags tied with a pretty ribbon.

I especially love the idea of serving them with homemade hot cocoa for a cozy winter afternoon.
