Unlike regular waffles, these have an extra layer of flavor from the chopped apples baked right into the batter. As the waffles cook, the apples soften and release their juices, giving each bite a natural sweetness. The cinnamon ties everything together and makes your whole kitchen smell like autumn.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg (optional)

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup finely chopped or grated apples (peeled if preferred)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Waffle Iron
Warm up your waffle maker according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. Mix Wet Ingredients
In a separate bowl, beat the eggs until light and fluffy. Add in the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract, whisking until smooth.
  4. Combine Batter
Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Fold in the chopped or grated apples. The batter will be slightly thick—this helps the waffles cook up fluffy inside and crispy outside.
  5. Cook the Waffles
Grease your waffle iron lightly, then pour in the batter and cook until the waffles are golden brown. Each waffle maker is different, but 3–5 minutes per waffle is usually perfect.
  6. Serve & Enjoy
Stack your waffles high and serve with warm maple syrup, a dusting of powdered sugar, or even a dollop of whipped cream. For extra fall flavor, top with caramel sauce and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

The best part about this recipe is its versatility. If you prefer a sweeter waffle, drizzle on caramel or add a little brown sugar to the batter. If you like texture, use diced apples for chunks of fruit, or if you prefer smoothness, grate the apples finely so they melt right into the batter. Either way, the result is delicious.
