Tropical Breeze Jello Shots
Tropical Breeze Jello Shots
These Tropical Breeze Jello Shots are bright, fruity, and filled with tropical flavor. Made with berry blue gelatin, pineapple juice, coconut rum, and blue curaçao, these easy Jello shots have a gorgeous blue-green tropical color that looks like clear Caribbean water.

They taste like a tropical vacation in a little cup.
Sweet pineapple and coconut give them that unmistakable island flavor, while blue curaçao adds citrus and helps create their beautiful ocean-inspired color.
Add a tiny pineapple wedge on top, and they’re ready for a pool party, summer cookout, tropical birthday, or beach-themed celebration.

Total Time: About 4 hours

- 3/4 cup boiling water

How to Make Tropical Breeze Jello Shots
Step 1: Prepare the Cups
Arrange approximately 12–16 small Jello shot cups on a baking sheet or tray.
Keeping them together on a tray makes it much easier to move the filled shots into the refrigerator.
Step 2: Dissolve the Gelatin
Pour the berry blue gelatin into a medium heat-safe mixing bowl.
Add 3/4 cup boiling water.
Whisk for approximately 2 minutes, or until the gelatin has completely dissolved.
Step 3: Add the Pineapple Juice
Allow the gelatin mixture to cool for a few minutes.
Stir in 1/2 cup pineapple juice.
This is where you’ll start seeing the color change.
The yellow-gold pineapple juice combines with the blue gelatin and moves the mixture toward that beautiful tropical blue-green shade.
Step 4: Add the Coconut Rum
Pour in 1/2 cup coconut rum.
Stir gently until combined.
The coconut rum gives these shots their sweet tropical coconut flavor without changing the color very much.
Step 5: Add the Blue Curaçao
Stir in 1/4 cup blue curaçao and 1/4 cup cold water.
The blue curaçao reinforces the tropical color while adding a subtle sweet orange-citrus flavor.
Step 6: Fill the Cups
Carefully divide the mixture between your prepared Jello shot cups.
Fill each cup approximately 3/4 full.
Step 7: Chill
Transfer the tray to the refrigerator.
Refrigerate for 2–4 hours, or until completely set.
Step 8: Garnish
Just before serving, add a tiny fresh pineapple wedge.
For an extra-tropical presentation, add a small piece of pineapple with a maraschino cherry.
Keep refrigerated until serving.

What Do Tropical Breeze Jello Shots Taste Like?
These are sweet, fruity, citrusy, and tropical.
Pineapple gives you the first burst of tropical fruit.
Coconut rum adds that smooth coconut flavor that immediately makes the shots taste like a vacation cocktail.
Blue curaçao contributes a light citrus-orange flavor.
And berry blue gelatin gives everything a sweet fruity base.
The result reminds me of one of those gorgeous blue tropical drinks you’d order somewhere with palm trees and an ocean view.
How Do Tropical Breeze Jello Shots Get Their Blue-Green Color?
This is one of my favorite things about this recipe.
We’re starting with blue gelatin and then adding golden-yellow pineapple juice.
Blue + yellow naturally begins pushing the mixture toward green.
But we’re also adding blue curaçao, which brings more blue back into the mixture.
The finished color should land somewhere between aqua, turquoise, and blue-green.
Exactly where it lands will depend on the brands of gelatin, pineapple juice, and blue curaçao you use.
And honestly, that’s part of the fun.
Jennie’s Thoughts
I wanted these to look like tropical water.
Not bright royal blue.
Not lime green.
That gorgeous color somewhere in between blue and green that makes you think of clear water and white sand.
And the flavors had to match the color.
Pineapple.
Coconut.
A little citrus.
Basically everything I associate with one of those tropical cocktails you drink on vacation.
I especially love these with a tiny pineapple wedge on top.
You could add a cherry too, but I actually think they’re beautiful with just the yellow pineapple against that blue-green Jello.
Put a whole tray of them together and that color is going to be incredible.

Why Use Coconut Rum?
Coconut rum gives these Jello shots an instant tropical flavor.
It pairs naturally with pineapple and citrus, so it works beautifully with both the pineapple juice and blue curaçao.
It also doesn’t introduce a dark color that could muddy that beautiful aqua shade.
What Does Blue Curaçao Taste Like?
Despite its brilliant blue color, blue curaçao isn’t blue raspberry flavored.
It’s a citrus-flavored liqueur traditionally associated with orange flavor.
That citrus note works especially well with pineapple and coconut.
For this recipe, we’re only using a small amount, so it adds flavor and color without completely taking over.
Can I Make Tropical Breeze Jello Shots Without Blue Curaçao?
Yes.
You can leave out the blue curaçao and replace it with additional cold water.
You’ll still have blue-green Jello shots because the pineapple juice will change the color of the blue gelatin.
However, blue curaçao helps create a more vivid tropical color and adds another layer of citrus flavor.
Can I Use Pineapple Vodka?
Absolutely.
For an even stronger pineapple flavor, replace the coconut rum with pineapple vodka.
You’ll have a more pineapple-forward shot without as much coconut flavor.
You could also use half pineapple vodka and half coconut rum.
That would be delicious.
Can I Use Regular Vodka?
Yes.
Regular vodka works if you want the pineapple, coconut, and citrus flavors to be less sweet.
Replace the coconut rum with the same amount of vodka.
Can I Use Fresh Pineapple Juice?
For the gelatin mixture, I recommend canned or bottled pasteurized pineapple juice.
Fresh pineapple contains bromelain, an enzyme that can interfere with gelatin setting properly.
Pasteurized pineapple juice has been heated, which deactivates the enzyme.
Fresh pineapple is perfect for garnishing the finished shots after they’ve set.
How to Adjust the Color
The fun part about this recipe is that you can slightly adjust the final shade.
If the mixture looks too green, add a tiny bit more blue curaçao.
If it’s too blue, a little additional pineapple juice can move it toward turquoise.
Just remember that changing the amount of liquid too much can affect how firmly the gelatin sets.
For tiny color adjustments, a drop of blue or green food coloring is another option.
You shouldn’t need much.
Make Them Turquoise
If you want a true turquoise color, make the recipe as written and then evaluate the mixture before pouring it into the cups.
Add one tiny drop of green food coloring if necessary.
Stir and check the color before adding any more.
Turquoise can turn green very quickly, so start small.
Make Them Look Like Ocean Water
For a beach-themed party, serve the shots in clear cups so that gorgeous color is completely visible.
Arrange them on a white platter and decorate the serving area with:
- Fresh pineapple
- Tropical leaves
- White flowers
- Cocktail umbrellas
- Pineapple leaves
- Citrus slices
The blue-green Jello should be the star.
Tropical Breeze Jello Shots for Summer

Serve them for:

- Tropical birthdays
- Girls’ nights
- Bachelorette parties
- Backyard parties
- Luau parties

They’d also be great for any party where you’re using blue, aqua, or tropical colors.
Make a Tropical Breeze Jello Shot Platter
Imagine a big white serving platter filled with rows of blue-green Jello shots.
Top every shot with a tiny golden pineapple wedge.
Scatter a few pineapple leaves and tropical flowers around the platter.
You don’t need to add a lot of decoration because that aqua color does most of the work for you.
Can I Make Tropical Breeze Jello Shots Ahead?
Yes.
Prepare them 1–2 days before serving.
Once completely set, cover the cups and keep them refrigerated.
Wait until shortly before serving to add the fresh pineapple and other garnishes.
How Many Jello Shots Does This Recipe Make?
This recipe makes approximately 12–16 small Jello shots, depending on the size of your cups.
Double the recipe if you’re making them for a larger party.
How to Store Tropical Breeze Jello Shots
Keep the finished Jello shots covered in the refrigerator.
Add fresh garnishes immediately before serving.
For the best flavor and texture, enjoy them within a few days.
Easy Tropical Jello Shots
These Tropical Breeze Jello Shots might be one of my favorite colors for a party.
They’re somewhere between blue and green, like beautiful tropical water.
Then you taste them and get pineapple, coconut, sweet fruit, and a little citrus from the blue curaçao.
The flavor matches the color perfectly.
They’re tropical, colorful, ridiculously easy to make, and exactly the kind of Jello shot that gets everyone’s attention when you bring out the tray.
