What is egg nog?
Egg nog was invented in Britan in the middle ages and is basically a cream or milk punch that is spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg, with added booze like bourbon and whisky. It mainly tastes like a sweet and spicy version of melted ice cream served in a punch bowl. It was originally served at celebrations and used to make a toast, but it wasn’t until much later it became a traditional holiday drink. When the colonies were settled in the 1700’s, they didn’t have a lot of ingredients, but they had the basics like dairy and eggs. They also had a good supply of rum and spices, like cinnamon and cloves. It’s no wonder this simple drink was easy to put together and served during the holidays.
