Stacked Witch Halloween Cookies
Stacked Witch Halloween Cookies
These Stacked Witch Halloween Cookies are such a fun way to make decorated sugar cookies for Halloween! A witch hat, bubbling cauldron, and a pair of striped witch legs are each decorated separately, then stacked together on a platter to create one adorable witch.

I found this stacked witch cookie cutter on Etsy and knew it would make such a cute Halloween cookie. I decorated mine in classic Halloween colors with lots of black icing, bright purple, neon green, and pops of orange. The bubbling witch’s cauldron might be my favorite part!
These cookies would be so cute for a Halloween party, a spooky dessert table, or added to a big platter of decorated Halloween cookies.

- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract, optional
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt

- Black cookie icing
- Purple cookie icing
- Bright green cookie icing
- Orange cookie icing
- Black sanding sugar
- Halloween sprinkles, optional

How to Make Stacked Witch Halloween Cookies
Start by making the sugar cookie dough. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until smooth and fluffy.
Add the egg and vanilla extract. Add the almond extract if you’re using it and mix until everything is well combined.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture and mix just until a soft dough forms.
Divide the dough into two disks, wrap them, and refrigerate for about 1 hour.
Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Roll the chilled cookie dough out on a lightly floured surface until it’s approximately 1/4-inch thick.
Use your stacked witch cookie cutters to cut out equal numbers of witch hats, cauldrons, and witch legs.
Transfer the cookies to the prepared baking sheet and bake for approximately 8–10 minutes, or until the cookies are set and the edges are just beginning to turn golden.
Let the cookies cool completely before decorating.

Decorating the Witch Hat Cookie
I covered the witch hat in black icing and added a bright purple band across the center.
Then I added little green dots along the purple band and finished it with a bright orange buckle.
The purple, green, and orange really stand out against the black icing and tie the hat into the colors used on the rest of the witch.
Decorating the Cauldron Cookie
Cover the cauldron with black icing. I added black sanding sugar to give the center of my cauldron a little sparkle and texture.
Now for the fun part—the witch’s brew!
Pipe bright green icing around the top of the cauldron in different-sized dots and blobs so it looks like the potion is bubbling over the edge. Let some of the green icing drip down the front.
Add smaller dots of purple and orange icing throughout the green bubbles.
You don’t need to make this section perfect. In fact, the different sizes and colors make the bubbling potion even cuter.
Decorating the Witch Legs Cookie
Use purple icing to decorate the witch’s skirt.
For the tights, pipe alternating stripes of bright orange and black icing.
Finish the bottom with black icing to create her pointed, curled witch shoes.
Let all of the decorated cookies sit flat until the icing has completely set.
How to Stack the Witch Cookies
The best part is putting everything together!
Place the witch legs cookie at the bottom of a long platter. Set the bubbling cauldron directly above the legs, and finish with the witch hat cookie at the top.
Once they’re lined up, the three individual cookies suddenly look like one big stacked witch.
You don’t need to attach the cookies together. Simply arrange them close to one another on the serving platter.

Tips for Decorating
Make sure your sugar cookies are completely cool before adding any icing.
If you’re using several icing colors next to one another, letting the first color set for a few minutes can help prevent the colors from running together.
For the bubbling cauldron, don’t try to make every bubble identical. Different-sized dots, little drips, and overlapping colors make it look much more like a bubbling witch’s potion.
And definitely have fun with the colors. I love the combination of black, purple, bright green, and orange, but hot pink or electric blue would also be really cute.
Perfect for a Halloween Cookie Platter
These would make such a fun centerpiece for a Halloween cookie platter because the complete stacked witch is much larger than an individual cookie.
Arrange one or two witches in the center and fill the rest of the platter with decorated pumpkins, ghosts, black cats, bats, candy corn cookies, or your other favorite Halloween treats.
You could also package one hat, one cauldron, and one set of witch legs together as a cute three-cookie Halloween gift.

How to Store Decorated Halloween Cookies
Allow the icing to dry completely before storing the cookies.
Keep them in an airtight container at room temperature for about 4–5 days. If you need to layer the cookies, place parchment or wax paper between the layers to protect the decorations.
You can also bake the sugar cookies ahead of time and freeze them undecorated. Thaw them completely before adding the icing.

Jennie’s Thoughts
I found this stacked witch cookie cutter on Etsy and thought it was such a cute idea! I love that each part is its own cookie, but when you line the three pieces up together, you get one big witch.
I think the bubbling cauldron is my favorite. The bright green potion with the little purple and orange bubbles turned out so fun, especially against all of the black. I also love her orange and black striped tights and those curled witch shoes!
These are definitely the kind of cookies that make a Halloween platter feel extra special without having to create one enormous cookie. You can decorate each piece individually, let everything dry, and then put your witch together right before serving.
And everyone can decide which part they want—the witch hat, the bubbling cauldron, or those cute little witch legs!
