Black Cat Decorated Halloween Cookies
Black Cat Decorated Halloween Cookies
These Black Cat Decorated Halloween Cookies are such a fun Halloween baking project! Buttery cut-out sugar cookies are decorated with smooth black icing, bright green cat eyes, purple ears and a cute purple bow tie for a Halloween cookie that’s spooky, colorful, and still completely adorable.

I especially love the curled tail and those big green eyes. They give the cookies so much personality! These would be perfect for a Halloween party, cookie tray, classroom celebration, or an afternoon of Halloween baking.

Instructions
Make the Cookies
In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until light and creamy.
Add the egg, vanilla, and almond extract and mix until well combined.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture and mix until a soft dough forms.
Divide the dough into two portions and flatten each into a disk. Wrap and refrigerate for about 1 hour.
Preheat the oven to 350°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
Roll the chilled dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness. Cut out the cookies using a black cat cookie cutter and transfer them to the prepared baking sheets.
Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until the edges are just beginning to turn lightly golden. Don’t overbake if you want soft cookies.
Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. Cool completely before decorating.

How to Decorate Black Cat Cookies
Outline the cat with black cookie icing, then fill the entire body, head, and tail with black icing. Allow the icing to set before adding the smaller details.
Use bright green icing to make two large oval-shaped eyes. Add black icing vertically through the center of each eye to create cat-eye pupils. Add a tiny dot of white icing to each eye for a little highlight.
Add purple icing inside the ears and use it to make a small nose.
Pipe a cute purple bow tie underneath the cat’s face. Add a little purple sanding sugar or sprinkles while the icing is still wet if you want some sparkle.
Use white icing to add whiskers and a little mouth. You can also add black decorating gel along the curled tail for extra definition.
Allow the decorated cookies to sit flat until the icing is completely set.
Decorating Tips
The easiest way to get a clean black finish is to outline the cookie first and then flood the center with slightly thinner black icing.
Let the black icing crust before adding the green eyes and purple details. This helps prevent the colors from bleeding together.
Don’t worry about making every cat identical. Different expressions, bow ties, and eye shapes make a whole tray of these even cuter.
You could also change the accent colors. Orange, hot pink, or electric blue would all look great against the black icing.
Make Them for a Halloween Party
These cookies would look so cute arranged on a Halloween dessert board with candy corn, chocolate candies, mini pumpkins, and other decorated Halloween cookies.
They’re also sturdy enough to package individually in clear treat bags once the icing has completely hardened.
Storing the Cookies
Store the finished cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4–5 days. Place parchment or wax paper between layers to protect the decorations.
The undecorated sugar cookies can also be frozen and decorated closer to Halloween.

Jennie’s Thoughts
I absolutely love how these black cat cookies turned out! The bright green eyes against the black icing are probably my favorite part, but I also love the little purple bow tie. It makes the cat look fancy instead of scary!
These are the kind of Halloween cookies that look like you spent forever decorating them, but the actual design is really simple once you break it down. Black icing covers most of the cookie, and then it’s really just a few colorful details that bring the cat to life.
I also think these would be adorable mixed into a big tray of decorated Halloween cookies. Between the curled tail, those huge green eyes, and that little bow tie, this black cat definitely has personality.
