Step by Step Instructions

Preparing the Cookie Dough:

  1. Mixing Magic: In a bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Egg-cellent Addition: Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
  3. Flour Power: Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until the dough comes together. Form it into a ball and wrap it in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

  2. Rolling: Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness.

  4. Bake and Watch: Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes or until the edges turn golden brown. Let them cool completely before decorating.

  1. Whip Up the Icing: In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, meringue powder, and water until smooth.
  2. Using an edible pen, you can draw on the outline of the brain, eyes, and mouth to make decorating the cookies easy. 
  3. Color the Brains: Divide the icing into separate bowls and add pink, green, and black food coloring to create the perfect brain-like shades.

Decorating the Zombie cookies:

  • Outline First: Use a piping bag with a small round tip to outline the brain shapes with the pink colored icing.

Filling In: Thin out the remaining icing with a bit of water and flood the inside of the outlined mug area with green, allowing it to spread and fill.

Repeat with the white icing and color in the bone area that is sticking out of the pink brains.

Next, fill in the eyes with white icing and the mouth with black icing. Allow about 15 minutes for those areas to dry before adding the teeth and eyeballs.
