Lemon Drop Jello Shots

These Lemon Drop Jello Shots are bright, sweet, tart, and incredibly easy to make. Lemon gelatin, vodka, and fresh lemon juice come together to create a fun Jello shot inspired by the classic Lemon Drop cocktail.

And just like a traditional Lemon Drop, these are all about that combination of sweet sugar and tart lemon.

Ingredients

• 1 box (3 ounces) lemon gelatin
• 1 cup boiling water
• 1/2 cup vodka
• 1/4 cup cold water
• 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
• Granulated sugar, for the rims
• Small lemon wedges or thin lemon slices, optional, for garnish

How to Make Lemon Drop Jello Shots

Step 1: Prepare the Cups

Arrange approximately 12–16 small Jello shot cups on a baking sheet or tray.

Using a tray makes it much easier to move the filled cups into the refrigerator without spilling them.

Step 2: Dissolve the Lemon Gelatin

Pour the lemon gelatin into a medium heat-safe mixing bowl.

Add 1 cup boiling water.

Whisk for approximately 2 minutes, or until the gelatin has completely dissolved.

Make sure there aren’t any granules remaining at the bottom of the bowl.

Step 3: Add the Vodka and Lemon

Add the vodka, cold water, and fresh lemon juice.

Stir until everything is completely combined.

Step 4: Fill the Shot Cups

Carefully divide the lemon mixture between the prepared cups.

Fill each approximately 3/4 full.

A small measuring cup with a pouring spout works really well for filling Jello shot cups without making a mess.

Step 5: Refrigerate

Transfer the tray to the refrigerator.

Chill for 2–4 hours, or until completely set.

For the best texture, I recommend giving them the full four hours if you have time.

Step 6: Add the Sugar

Once the Jello shots have completely set, lightly moisten the edge of each cup with a small lemon wedge.

Dip or sprinkle the rim with granulated sugar.

Don’t add too much moisture or the sugar will begin to dissolve.

Step 7: Garnish

Finish each Lemon Drop Jello Shot with a tiny lemon wedge or thin lemon slice.

Keep refrigerated until you’re ready to serve.

You can slightly increase the vodka, but don’t replace too much of the non-alcoholic liquid.

Gelatin needs enough water to dissolve and set correctly, and high concentrations of alcohol can interfere with that process.

I prefer making Jello shots that hold their shape properly rather than adding so much vodka that they stay soft.

Sugar Rim Tips

Wait until the Jello shots have completely set before adding the sugar.

Yes!
