Making Your Blueberry Cake Donuts with Glaze
The process of making these sweet treats is quite simple. Start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees F (175 C) and greasing two 6-cavity donut pans. In a medium bowl, whisk together granulated sugar, all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, until everything is combined. Set aside.
In another medium bowl, whisk together buttermilk (or substitute plain yogurt or sour cream), eggs, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, lemon zest until smooth. Make sure to get out any lumps in the mixture.

Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and whisk until just combined—be careful not to overmix! Gently fold in fresh blueberries until evenly distributed throughout the batter. Scoop the batter into each cavity of your greased donut pans until about three-quarters full.

Bake for 12 minutes or until golden brown on top and a toothpick inserted into one of the donuts comes out clean. Let cool for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely before glazing them with your favorite icing or glaze recipe.

Glazing Your Donuts
Once your donuts are cool enough to handle (but still slightly warm!), it’s time to glaze them! To make a simple glaze for our blueberry cake donuts with glaze recipe, simply combine powdered sugar with the milk or cream in a shallow bowl and stir until smooth.

Dip each cooled donut into the glaze so that it’s evenly coated on both sides and place on parchment paper set atop a baking sheet so that any excess glaze can drip off without making too much of a mess! Allow the glazed donuts to sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before serving—you won’t want to wait that long though—we promise!
