  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (about 110°F)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 3 1/2 – 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • For topping:
    • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
    • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley flakes
    • Salt, to taste

  1. Activate the Yeast:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.
  2. Prepare the Dough:
    • Add 3 1/2 cups of flour, melted butter, salt, and garlic powder to the yeast mixture. Stir until the dough comes together.
    • If the dough is too sticky, gradually add more flour, a little at a time, until it pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
  3. Knead the Dough:
    • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  4. First Rise:
    • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
  5. Shape the Breadsticks:
    • Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal portions.
    • Roll each portion into a breadstick shape, about 7-8 inches long, and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving some space between each breadstick.
  6. Second Rise:
    • Cover the baking sheet with a clean kitchen towel and let the breadsticks rise again for about 30 minutes.
  7. Bake:
    • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
    • Bake the breadsticks for 10-12 minutes or until they are golden brown.
  8. Topping:
    • In a small bowl, mix together melted butter, garlic powder, dried parsley, and a pinch of salt.
    • As soon as the breadsticks come out of the oven, brush the tops generously with the butter mixture.
  9. Serve:
    • Serve the breadsticks warm and enjoy the deliciousness!
